MARCH 2021 UNIVERSITY ACTION GUIDE
As we journey through Lent, we hold our nation and world in prayer as we continue to simultaneously journey through the COVID-19 pandemic together. We recognize that God is with and amongst us even in the suffering. Let’s root ourselves in God’s ever-present love to continue acting in support of all our sisters and brothers around the world to lead the way on ending hunger in our world this month.
Don't forget to keep an eye out on Instagram at @CRSUniversity, and tag us in what you're doing, too!
March 2021: Lead The Way On Hunger
Welcome any new CRS chapter members and ask what has inspired them to join the CRS chapter.
Icebreaker for all: How is your Lenten journey going? How do you plan to celebrate Easter this year?
Reflection – Being God’s Microphone
Read Saint Oscar Romero’s story and reflect on the following questions:
How does Blessed Oscar Romero’s story inspire or challenge you?
How can you be God’s microphone in your daily life—“in your own job, in your own vocation,” as Archbishop Romero says?

This Month's Actions
Utilize the DIY Training: Did new chapter members join this semester? This easy-to-use and "choose your own adventure" training resource allows you to flexibly train yourselves or others on campus any time of year. Email email@example.com with any questions.
National Chapter Call
All chapter leaders, members and advisors are invited to participate live in this month’s National Chapter Call on March 13th at 1pm EST.
If you do not receive the Zoom information on March 6th and would like to join, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you or your chapter is unable to join live, the recording of the call will be sent via email to chapter leaders and advisors soon after the call concludes.
After watching the call (live or the recording), don’t forget to complete this month’s skill-building action sheet action with your chapter.
The skill-building action sheet is one tool for you to develop your advocacy skills and keep in consistent communication with your members of Congress each month to develop a relationship with the office. As you continue to develop your skills, this tool then allows you to expand your reach and invite others to complete the action too!
March’s Action Sheet action: Write a letter to the editor focused on your senators about the COVID-19 supplemental funding package.
- Important note: The message of your letter to the editor will shift after the COVID-19 supplemental funding package passes, expected before March 14th.
Plan a new Congress virtual visit with a group of advocates to represent your university.
This year, as part of our Lead the Way on Hunger and Migration campaigns, our new Congress visits will be focused on informing members of Congress about the Global Child Thrive Law and asking them to support an international response in the COVID-19 Supplemental Funding.
Are there other chapters in your state? Coordinate virtual visits where your chapter shares the same member of Congress that represents your university. Your CRS Representative can support any questions you may have about coordination.
Use the following resources to prepare for your virtual meetings:
Research your member of Congress Follow their website and various news outlets to see if your members of Congress are assigned to any of the Key Committees (en español) that work on international policy and legislation.
- Peek at the background information and talking points on the Global Child Thrive Law (en español) as you look to inform your members of Congress in your virtual meetings.
Coordinate roles for the meeting using the Congressional Meeting Roles Worksheet (Look in your Downloads for this Word Document after clicking the link.)
