Besides tweeting about it (using #4Lent4Life, of course), Catholic Relief Services offers a number of ways you can live your faith, deepen your prayer, and more intentionally connect to the Catholic mission of solidarity with people around the world during the season of Lent.  And, you can engage others on your campus to do the same!

Here are a few of our favorite ideas, mostly from our CRS Rice Bowl Lenten program, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year:

  1. Watch CRS’ new video series, What is Lent?,in which prominent Catholic figures like Cardinal Timothy Dolan; Father James Martin, SJ; Dr. Carolyn Y. Woo; and Archbishop José Gomez reflect on the themes of the season. (see video below)

  2. Download the CRS Rice Bowl App, and engage with us on Social Media (@CRSUniversity, @CRSRiceBowl, #4Lent4Life)

  3. Order CRS Rice Bowls for your campus if you haven’t already.

  4. First time doing CRS Rice Bowl? Watch this Google Hangout Recording of students from other schools sharing their CRS Rice Bowl ideas. (see video below)

  5. Use the CRS Community Reflections Guide to host a faith-sharing group on campus.

  6. Buy a Fair Trade Simple Supper/Centerpiece Kit from our partner SERRV to host simple meals with your community (find the recipes and CRS Global Kitchen videos here).

  7. Participate in our Lenten Social Media Scavenger Hunt

All of these resources (and more) are also available on our CRS Rice Bowl/University Website, and we’re happy to talk with you about how to use the Rice Bowl resources to engage other students in the season of Lent throughout all 6 weeks. Just send us an email at or join our Facebook group to ask other CRS Student Ambassadors about their experiences of using Rice Bowl on campus!
