Blog:

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

But the upcoming season of Lent sounds so delightful…

Just as our calendar-year seasons and weather guide many of our choices—clothes, vacation spots, time spent outdoors—so, too, can the Liturgical Seasons guide our activities and, of course, wardrobe choices (PURPLE!).

The season of Lent always begins on Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 18 this year.  It’s never too early to start getting yourself—and your campus—ready. And we don’t just mean shopping for new clothes in every shade of purple.

In addition to ordering and using traditional Rice Bowls on campus, you can also download the CRS Rice Bowl App and order CRS Rice Bowl’s University-specific (FREE) Resource: The Community Reflections Guide.  These handy-dandy booklets can be used in 3,598 ways, at least.  Here are 5 of our favorites:

Way 456: Pick out an opening prayer for any student group meeting from anywhere in the book by looking for this icon.

Way 3,442: Host an Iron Chef competition using one of the Simple Meal Recipes.

Way 2,258: Looking for a fun date idea?  Invite that special someone over for a candlelit dinner of West African Peanut Stew, the Simple Meal recipe from Niger.  Maybe you’ll even want to do one of the Reflections together.

Way 23: If you’re a fan of inspiring quotes, this one’s for you!  One of the activities involves reflecting on quotes like “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other” by Mother Teresa and “I firmly believe that our salvation depends on the poor” by Dorothy Day.

Way 1,001: Ever wondered, “What is Lent?”  Learn more!
